The Sandalwoods and Guests
July 8 @ 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm£7.5
The Sandalwoods preview their debut album ‘Pascal’s Wager’ plus guests: DJ Martin Brew, Transmission13 and more.
The Sandalwoods hail from Crumpsall, North Manchester, and consist of local contrarian Will Deegan and Brothers Mark and Paul McCole. All three write the songs with Paul providing the vocals and esoteric lyrics. The Sandalwoods have a simple aim and that is to produce ‘blatant indie pop’.
Formed in 1986, The Sandalwoods achieved modest success in Manchester in the late 80’s and early 90’s and released Vanessa (This Is Manchester Vol. 1 in 1991) and The Day Is Mine (Sound of Leamington Spa Vol. 2 in 1992). The band was part of the original ‘Legendary Manchester Busker’ scene and worked with a number of outstanding musicians along the way including Tony Kirkham (Stereophonics), John Ellis (Jazz maestro) and DJ Martin Brew (aka J-Walk). The band took a sabbatical in 1994 but still did the odd gig here and there.
Move forward to late 2017 and The Sandalwoods, inspired by the current vibrant music scene, accessible technology and the ‘do it yourself’ approach towards releasing music write and record their first album: Pascal’s Wager due out in the Summer 2018 consists of 11 brand new songs based around themes such as religion, death, decay, misogyny, moral relativism, dysfunctional relationships, advice on drug trafficking and the dangers of cheese and wine…….all fairly standard subject matter for ‘out and out’ pop songs!
